ARCHGEN 733 - Public Urban Space in the Contemporary City
A City Reflected Through the Politics of the Human Presence and an Analysis Focusing Upon it's Developed Urban Framework and Public Space as a Result.
Under the teachings of marvel Julie Stout, this essay oriented paper required students to select a major city worldwide and research it's origin and subsequent urban development across its lifetime.
Choosing Barcelona, I studied Ildefons Cerdà and his 1855 Eixample plan through a series of drawings, comparing the old and new cities. Discussed was it's effects on the inhabitants of the city from its time of completion, to the 1992 Olympic Games, to the 21st century and the further cultural development undertaken within the 22@ project in the south-eastern El Poblenou prefecture.
I probably could've slapped a bunch of text from the essay onto this here page for you to read, too, though I'm sure looking at a couple pretty pictures would be bit more fun.
