ARCHDES 701 - Advanced Design I
The second part of this paper began as the country went into Level 4 as a response to COVID-19, effectively resulting in a purely digital based output.
Presented with the Orchard Road Cemetery in Hastings, the project Moller gave us was to create a one room building for silent reflection, but not necessarily mourning.
The concept of this was certainly a challenge, though after a bit of research into inhabitable art / exhibition based projects, Richard Serra's immense planar sculptures caught my eye. Encasing a series of weaving planes inside of an opaque tensile frame allowed for multiple separated areas to be created within a singular physical threshold.
In addition to this, we were tasked to use Instagram to post our final renders. Moller encouraged us to understand how one might promote or 'show off' a building in a way one would on social media, whilst being restricted by the bounds of the squared posting format.
