ARCHDES 306 - Design 6
Limited to the grounds immediately surrounding the Old Government House, our prompt required us to think of what a library, or archive, could be. Despite its location within the University, the atmosphere remained mostly quiet, causing the minute noises within the environment to take the forefront - the wind, my footsteps, my breathing - causing my ears to react more dramatically to those moments.
The project was accomplished with three individual acoustic experiences, or multiples.
Multiple I - acting as an anechoic chamber, a silent space to listen to oneself. Multiple II - similar to the previous chamber yet it intersects the ground, allowing sounds from above to enter to interact with ones own. Multiple III - a larger space for the use of multiple parties in order to maximise the properties of sound reverberation, where the discovery of space through sound is at play.
Here, an attempt is made to question how the qualities of noise could be used to connect oneself to an inner/outer structure by encouraging observations through the detection of sound.
