Following Maesteal's digital campaign for their emerging collective, they were offered the immense opportunity to host their own show for New Zealand Fashion Week 2023: Kahuira.
I was approached to shoot on film the classic bts chaos that occurs before any major event such as this one, alongside a series of headshots. I also assisted on the look-book shoot with fellow photograph George Cabré (@georcabr), where he shot on 120mm medium format film, and where I simultaneously shot on standard 35mm film while capturing digital imagery for safety purposes.
This collection was composed of 4 members of the collective's work; Copper, Angel, Silva, and Clara. The thematic ethos for the collection entered around the untangling of gendered silhouettes and business attire. The collective produced a range of avant-garde and creature wear, attempting to personify queer distress and alienation.
